Anamanaguchi - Bluebird Theater - 12.08.19

I arrived at a quiet Bluebird Theater with an eager crowd waiting for the music to start. The night began with Nullsleep, an electronic artist who utilized the sounds of a Sega, Original NES, and GameBoy during his set which included a mix of house, techno, and jungle music. Nullsleep was relaxed and energetic, talking a bit between songs, telling us of the possibility of his gaming systems malfunctioning and how he is donating all the money he makes during this tour to the climate action charity, Sierra Club. Nullsleep was awesome, his sounds rang true to nostalgia but he managed to keep things fresh and gave us quite a unique and bouncy show.

Next up Default Genders. I've been listening to their newest album, main pop girl 2019, which I'm really enjoying the more I listen to it. It's dreamy, pop-y, and personal and I'm sure you'll find at least a couple of songs that you enjoy if you give it a listen. Default Genders' live show was more raw than I was expecting which made it a fun and emotional performance.

Last up was Anamanaguchi, boasting a custom scrolling LED screen with quirky messaging about the weather and opening acts, with the full band in tow, they raged. The tunes rang true to their style with familiar sounds of video games, powerful guitar riffs, and pop-punk energy. Their show was lively, emotional, and fun. At one point in the show, they grabbed a light from their stage props and handed it to the joyful crowd who was eager to pass it around to each other. Throughout the night they stopped to talk to us, mentioning this Denver show was the last on this leg of the tour, the next leg beginning January 2020 in Richmond, VA. Lorem Ipsum, Miku, and Sunset By Plane were among the many songs they played from their deep catalog of music. They played a lot from their most recent album [ U S A ], a strong collection of songs that are sure to please your ears. They've released video game soundtracks in the past, one being for their own game, Capsule Silence XXIV, which you can play for free here: https://anamanaguchi.wetransfer.com/downloads/a697e95f98bf5f859dc5a78f394ad6f720160406171459/34b540. Overall it was a great night of music. Anamanaguchi has a lot to offer and if you haven’t listened to their music yet, do it. If you have a chance to see them live, do it.
