Gesaffelstein - Mission Ballroom - 11.13.19

I arrived at the show around 8 PM at the Mission Ballroom, Denver’s newest venue. Mission Ballroom is quite a treat, boasting lots of space, a modern layout, and great lighting and sound that can keep up with any current music venue. I arrive just as Guillaumeberg started his set. Guillaumeberg played a primarily techno set comprising of nostalgic 80/90s underground vibes and closed with some aggressive d&b while most people were chatting among themselves in anticipation of Gesaffelstein. Guillaumeberg wrapped up at 8:45 just in time for the stage crew to set up for Gesaffelstein’s prompt 9 PM start.

The show opens with a man covered head to toe in sparkling silver walking out of the heavens, a spectacular display of bright light, opening up to reveal Gesaffelstein. The light show was quite impressive. From steady beams shining specifically on Gesaffelstein to strobe-y, sporadic, seizure-inducing bursts of energetic moments synced with the music. The music started powerfully and in your face, with a few moments of a lull to rest but not much. The energy was kept up throughout, playing deep cuts along with his more popular music, including “Lost In The Fire” feat. The Weeknd. Gesaffelstein ends the set with some aggressive punk-inspired electronic tunes that mirrored the energy of the whole show. Overall, it felt like a futuristic, epic, outer space adventure and we were all lucky enough to be a part of it all. If you are a fan of Daft Punk, Deadmau5, or electronic music in general, I highly suggest you make it out to his next show near you.
